The first weekly episode of Dixiane Hallaj reading her novel Born a Refugee. In this episode, we join Mother and her four sons in their impossibly small home in the Kalandia Refugee Camp. The Camp (sometimes spelled Qalandia) is located between Jerusalem and Ramallah in the Occupied Territories. The Camp is real, the characters are not.
Writer Notes is another series of short audio files that will appear at irregular intervals accompanying readings. These will cover bits and pieces of writing craft that will highlight portions of the reading as examples. NOTE: These are not intended as the best examples, but show one way of handling an issue that many writers find challenging.
Author Notes will also appear at irregular intervals in which Dixiane will talk about events that occurred in her life that inspired the events of the novel.
The oud music used in all episodes connected with the Kalandia Series is by Abdul-Wahab Kayyali and played by license.
Thank you for making this possible.
